Srinagar, Nov 4: As the torching of government schools in Kashmir is becoming a major causality of the ongoing unrest, J&K Education Department in a bid to put a curb on this menace has issued a 'night roaster circular' asking its employees to protect educational institutes itself.
"In order to prevent the government schools who are on target by the miscreants, the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) in circular asked all districts of Chief Education officers (CEO's) to prepare a night roaster duty sheet to ensure that atleast two staff members are present in the school premises during the night," top official of education department told Early Times.
According to the sources, "The directions has been also issued to all the heads of the government schools whether it is Primary, High or Higher secondary schools that during the day time at least one local teacher or local school staff member should remain physically present in a school."
Pertinently at least 27 schools including two private schools across Kashmir Valley have been burnt by unknown miscreants since the unrest in the valley. Majority of these buildings were set on fire in the middle of the night. According to the reports out of 27 schools, at least eight have been razed to the ground. As per official sources, Kulgam district of Kashmir leads in burning of schools where atleast eight school buildings were set on fire including one private school followed by two schools each in Bandipore, Baramulla, Shopian, Anantnag, Ganderbal while one each Kupwara and Pulwama.
Meanwhile taking cognizance in this regard, the state government has issued directions to concerned officials of maintaining vigil at their own also particularly when High Court has issued directives to the state government to protect the schools and take immediate steps to prevent further loss and the recurrence of such incidents.
