BSF Dog Squad playing vital role in foiling Infiltration bids along IB | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 4: To check the desperate infiltration bids and to sniff out any explosive material along the International Border during routine patrol, the BSF authorities along the Jammu frontier have pressed services of their dog squad to assist their foot soldiers and which has proved their worth in such operations. Official sources said, "Trained in their academy near Tekanpur Gwalior (MP), the tracker dogs (canines) are acting as force multipliers for the border guards in difficult times." "Infact they are coming apt to the proverb 'a dog is best friend of a man' as the kennel squad engaged with the foot soldiers patrolling the International Borders is proving its worth,' they added. "Keeping in view their crucial role in the tracking and Road Opening Party (ROP) duties almost all the battalions have been engaged at least a group of four trained dogs in their area of operation, sources added. According to Dr Vinay Yadav, Deputy Commandant of BSF the tracker dogs as per routine undergo a nine month long comprehensive training while sniffer dogs require only 6 month training before they are deployed in field area along with the foot soldiers. Senior BSF officers of Jammu frontier also have confirmed to prevent infiltration bids and to check the presence of explosives buried under the ground, the sniffer dogs are pressed in to service in the forward areas along the IB. They further claimed that infiltrators have been desperately trying to come closer to the border fence just to sneak inside the Indian side but these dogs acts a biggest deterrent as they can be tracked down by them.
