MENDHAR, Oct 17: Pakistan today resorted to heavy fire on the Line of Control (LoC) in Balakote sub-sector near here in its attempt to push militants into the Indian territory but alert Indian troops discovered the suspicious movement and foiled the infiltration bid. Violating ceasefire, Pak troops opened fire, targeting Datote forests in Panini Nullah area of Balakote at about 11.45 am. The border troops, who watched all this with a great alertness, detected some suspicious movement close to the LoC on their side, official sources said. The troops then retaliated and opened fire in the direction of the suspicious persons who then retreated, the sources added. The exchange of fire between the two sides continued up to 12 noon. Pak wanted to infiltrate militants under the cover of fire but the alert Indian troops did not let it succeed, sources said. A tight vigil was being maintained all along the LoC to foil any intrusion bid from across the border, the sources added. The two sides also exchanged some arms fire on Thursday night from 9 pm to 11 pm. |
