Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 17: Fearing backlash Congress leadership is hesitating to make public the recent reshuffle conducted to revamp the party ahead of the assembly elections. Recently the Congress leadership has removed a number of district presidents and appointed new presidents but no official handout has been issued in this regard.
Credible sources in the Congress said that party leadership has removed half a dozen district presidents but entire exercise has remained secret. Even some incumbent district presidents were not informed that they have been removed from their posts.
Credible sources said that there was pressure on the leadership to remove some district presidents who were not performing due to their age. Similarly party leadership was not impressed by the performance of some of the district presidents so they were removed from their posts.
Ironically these district presidents were moved from their posts but Congress leadership is not daring to make official announcement in this regard. The Congress leadership is in dilemma because on the one hand party leadership has appointed new district presidents but on the other hand there was a fear that announcement in this regard would intensify the infighting. Not only incumbent district presidents would raise a banner of revolt but some leaders who have been appointed working district presidents were not satisfied with the decision of the leadership to appoint them as working presidents.
Credible sources further said that Congress leadership is of the view that revolt among leaders at this crucial time especially ahead of the assembly elections would be proved counterproductive for the party at this time.
Some newly appointed district presidents have themselves given advertisements in some news papers but no official communique has been made in this regard.
