Fails to acknowledge Shakti Devi's international feat
Short- sighted Omar overlooks another Jammu achiever

JAMMU, Oct 17: With praises and accolades pouring from all across over Jammu's cop Inspector Shakti Devi who has been awarded the International Female Police Peacekeeper Award 2014, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has not been able to find time and words to appreciate the officer for her unique feat.
Currently deployed in the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, Inspector Shakti Devi of J&K Police has been honoured for her "exceptional achievements" in leading the establishment of Women Police Councils in several parts of strife-torn Afghanistan, where life is on the edge.
While Shakti's achievements have been widely lauded by all and sundry, Omar, who should have been first to hail the achievement of the officer at the International level has failed to utter a word in her praise or recognition, while former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Governor NN Vohra, DGP K. Rajendra and several other political leaders have been generous in showering accolades on the lady officer who made the state and the country proud. "I am highly pleased to know that Shakti Devi has achieved a rare feat by dint of her hard work and devotion. She has made the state and J&K Police Department proud," Azad said.
This is not the first time that Omar has failed to recognize and acknowledge the achievements of youth from Jammu in different fields. Earlier, two girls from Jammu were included in the Indian gymnastics team that was part of the Indian contingent that participated in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, which was the maiden participation by any sportsperson from the state in the prestigious games, but Chief Minister, who is also the president of the J&K State Sports Council, did not even make a mention of the rare feat of Jammu girls, let alone honouring them. Even during the recently concluded Asian Games at Incheon South Korea, two Jammu boys were included in the Indian Handball Team, but again, they failed to catch the eye and fancy of the Young Chief Minister; even the winner of the bronze medal in shooting even of the Asian Games, Chain Singh, an Army man from Doda failed to impress Omar and his government.
Beyond the cold shoulder extended to the achievers of Jammu however, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been hyper active on Twitter congratulating Parvez Rasool, the cricketer from the valley for his selection in the National side and even in his IPL team, raising serious question mark on his sectarian approach in even encouraging the achievers of the state he heads.
