PIO FCI gives two hoots to RTI Act | | | Bivek Mathur JAMMU, Oct 17: In yet another attempt of belittling the Right to Information Act, Public Information Officer (PIO), Food Corporation of India (FCI), Jammu branch denied to own responsibility of delivering the information under the act after a period of one month. With this, the adamant PIO, when contacted by Early Times over the failure of the FCI to deliver the requisite information within a stipulated time period said that he was getting disturbed due to the phone call and hence disconnected the call. Pertinently an RTI was filed on September 16, 2014 through speed post, seeking to know Number of times tenders invited by FCI for the purchase of Jute bags/Sacs from different private firms/Contractors this year i.e. 2014 beginning January and ending September; Details of advertisement notices in newspapers for these purchases made by FCI and the person allotted these tenders with details of process of allotment; Details of persons/Firms participated in the process of providing jute bags with their bidding cost and the person allotted these tenders with his bidding cost; and judicial status of the tendering process. Following failure of the FCI to deliver the required information after passage of one month, the PIO was contacted on his cellphone number 9906022719 and asked why department was delaying dissemination of the information, who pointed out technical discrepancies in the application as the reason for not providing the information even after the lapse of mandatory one month. Meanwhile, the PIO when contacted regarding delay in [providing the information said , "I'm least bothered". |
