PDD plays hide & seek before onset of winter | | | Shakeel A Khan
BUDGAM, Oct 17: Though the winter starts in November in Kashmir, the Power Development Department (PDD) has begun to play the game of hide and seek, reminding the people of the dreaded dark times that are ahead. This time the situation may become even more complex since most of the flood affected areas are still without the electricity. Most of the areas of the Budgam district are experiencing unscheduled power curtailments giving tough times to the commuters. The power supply in many villages of the district has worsened prior to the onset of the harsh colds season and given the poor performance of the PDD it is for sure that the people of the Valley have to be content with what comes their way. The people of Darmunah, Gotapora, Churpora, Aarath, Kawoosa, Gariend, Sholipora are up in the arms against the authorities for failing to provide the power supply even for the scheduled time. These people say that all this happening when there is a great rush in the rice mills. As per these people it has doubled the pain of the people as the flood has already ruined them. "For the people like me who run the rice mills face inconvenience as the frequent power breakdown disrupts our work badly which subjects us to immense loss. In this kind of situation we cannot earn our lively hood nor can we pay the electricity charges. If we suffer this season then when are we going to enjoy," said Moahammad Hayat from Budgam who owns a rice mill. People of the area say that the PDD has a very weak field staff strength and in the absence of its field workers the people do the job of repair of the transformers and wires. It is the department that has never come to the true expectations of the people as the commoners say. "The PDD seems to have learnt no lesson from their previous failures and they have done nothing to ensure that the power supply doesn't get affected during the winter. A moderate snowfall can prove nasty for the PDD as well as for the commoners," said Ghulam Mohammad from Wadwan village while talking to Early Times. |
