Apprehending political backlash, NC leadership cross with Omar | Financial package for Chhamb refugees | | ET Report JAMMU, Oct 17: The National Conference leadership is upset with the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for approving financial package to the refugees of the Jammu region. Sources said the party senior leadership believes the CM has further damaged the blinkering election prospects of the party. "The package to refugees could be exploited by our opponents accusing us of favouring Jammu people who were affected by Pakistan, which has role in the Kashmir. We could be politically exploited as anti-Kashmiri," said a senior NC official. It is for this reason that NC leader Ali Mohammad Sagar had a heated argument with the Congress leader when this package was tabled for approval in the Cabinet. The NC had deliberately ignored this package fearing that it could open gates for granting state subject to the west-Pak refugees. "Now this has been done, the day will not be far when West Pakistan refugees will also get their share and this is more likely to happen as BJP is in power in the Centre with asbsolute majority. And once it happen, our political prospect will be doomed for greater period as we will held responsible for it." Said the NC minister. Sources said the CM had agreed to give assent to this as he wants to keep relation alive with the Congress after the polls. "It seems Omar was more interested in his own political future than that of the party. He got the CM chair for full six-year giving every important ministry to the Congress with the sole aim of being chief minister and he has done it again as he knows without Congress it is almost an end of his political road map," said the official. |
