Jammu, Oct 17: Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA), has been envisaged by Government of India to fill the gaps in research and development, besides taking the latest agro-techniques to farmers. According to press release, rice growers of village Jinder Melu of R. S. Pura area were educated about various crop operations by the experts of Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA). Another Farm School on maize crop was organised in village Narri Bala of Akhnoor Sub Division. BB Sidha, Deputy Project Director, ATMA stressed upon the importance of removing undesired weeds from the farm to avoid unwanted competition with the crop and depletion of precious nutrients from the soil alleviating the grain quality due to admixture of weed seeds. He asserted the rice growers that the weeds should not be allowed to crop up and those emerging later should be removed from the crop before flowering or maturation of seeds for avoiding weed seed admixture lowering the quality of produce, thereby inflicting significant economic losses to the farmer. Dr. V. S. Verma, Project Director emphasized the need for concerted efforts at community level for eradication of noxious weeds from their fields thus enhancing the value of the grain fetching more income to farmer. He exhorted the farmers to follow the advisory provided by ATMA experts throughout the cropping season for increasing production and productivity of their crops and earning huge economic gains from their crop. |
