JAMMU, Oct 17: Hosts Jammu Frontier, securing highest 60 points, today emerged as overall championship in the Inter-Frontier BSF (Border Security Force) Games which came to an end with the holding of valedictory function at BSF Stadium, here. Overall second place went to Gujarat Frontier with 39 points while Rajasthan Frontier finished third obtaining 34 points out of five different events of Wrestling (Free Style and Greeco Roman), Weightlifting, Judo, Boxing and Gymnastics. Earlier, Jammu Frontier won the title trophies in Judo, Boxing, Gymnastics, Weightlifting and shared the first position (12 points) with Gujarat in Wrestling (Free Style). The wrestling trophy in Greeco Roman went to Punjab Frontier. For their outstanding performance, Mohd Shabaz Alam of Punjab Frontier named best gymnast while best boxer title went to Surmel Singh of Jammu. Similarly, Patil Sarang (free style) and Satyawan (greeco roman) of Jammu declared best in wrestling. Mangal Singh and Neeraj Kumar of Jammu Frontier were adjudged best judoka and lifter respectively. In the valedictory function, Special Director General of Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Romesh Chand Tyal was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies. In his encouraging speech, the chief guest complimented the BSF for producing 17 Arjuna awardees and one Dhronacharya coach. He appreciated the Jammu Frontier for hosting the mega event despite their pre-occupation due to tension on the borders. Later, Special DGP CRPF declared the five-day long meet closed. The chief guest was accompanied by the Inspector General of BSF, Jammu Frontier, Rakesh Sharma and other senior officers. Earlier, the students of BSF School, Paloura presented colourful cultural progamme. It was followed by the eye catching demonstrations by the Dogs Squad unit of the BSF in locating deadly objects and other performances amidst cheers from the crowds. |
