Kathua, Nov 11: An impressive function was organised in Rajiv Gandhi Memorial College of Education, Kathua to celebrate the birthday anniversary of the first Education minister of the country (National Education Day). Anu Dogra, Chairperson highlighted the values and ideals for which Moulana Azad stood during his life-time, while Principal of the college Dr. G.P. Sachdev made a power point presentation about his vision and achievements. On this occasion an Inter-College symposium on the topic "Rashtriya Uchchatar Shisksha Abhiyan: Issues, Challenges and Opportunities" was organised in which 34 students from different colleges of the state participated. The participants highlighted the drawbacks in the present higher education system of the country and emphasized the role of RUSA to improve the quality of education. Dr. Ram Murti Sharma graced the occasion as Chief Guest. He appreciated the role of the college in conducting the inter-college symposium in a systematic manner involving a large number of participants. While speaking on the occasion, he highlighted the role played by Moulana Azad in the freedom struggle as well as a secular leader by opposing the partition of India. Prof. Saroop Chander, Dr. P.N. Koul and Madam Mili Sumbria constituted the panel of judges. Aatika Sharma from G.D.C., Kathua bagged the 1st prize, Vishal Pathania from G.D.C., Kathua bagged the 2nd prize, while RimpuVerma from Rajiv Gandhi College of Education and BalqeesAkhter from New Age Degree College, Billawar bagged the 3rd prize.
