Early Times Report

srinagar, Nov 11: For the past several months the state government is unable to release monthly salaries of its employees working in different departments triggering immense inconvenience among the employees.
Employees assert that due to an unaccountable expenditure of state exchequer that the NC government is spending for the delight of ministers and MLA's they are now at the receiving end. A colossal anger is mounting among the employees who are accusing government for the lackadaisical approach to disburse their salaries for last several months.
"We toil hard to run the government machinery and at the end of month we expect that the government should pay us for our laborious work. This is not just a case with this month only, the government has altogether failed to release our salaries from the last six months," said Manzoor Ahmad Wagey, an employee with social welfare department.
Meanwhile several groups of employees have threatened to stop work if their salaries are not released. As the state is set for the elections that will start on November 25, a large number of employees are required to carry on the election duty and as such several groups of employees have threatened not to perform election duty unless their salaries are not released.
A teachers association working under SSA scheme in North Kashmir has threatened to boycott the election duty as the members have not been paid salary since past six months.
"We submitted a memorandum to Sub Divisional Magistrate on the occasion of first phase of election duty training conducted by the district administration on Saturday in which we asked the authorities to release our salary pending from last six months, lest we go for indefinite strike and election training and duty boycott in the forthcoming Assembly elections," said ShowkatRehman, Rehbar-e-Taleem Teachers Forum (RTTF) spokesperson.
While the state was recently hit by devastating floods and thousands of people were rendered homeless. There were large numbers of employees who too got affected by floods and while the government is unable to provide them salaries, numerous such employees are now left to God's mercy.
"I am the sole breadwinner in my family, we have lost our home and presently we are residing at a kin's house. It is difficult for me to meet both the ends. This is a shame on this government, first they led people die in this flood and now they are stopping their source of income. I have not been paid from the last four months and now begging seems to be the only option for me," said SajjadBhat, a government teacher.
It is worth to mention here that three quarters of the financial year have already ended, and during all this time employees working in dozens of state departments have worked without a salary and now as the state is all set for the elections, it is said that the employees may have to face more hardships in the coming days.
