Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 11: Call it irony or Goondaism of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to probe Kalakote triple murder case is after the life of investigative reporter of Early Times who has been following the story since day 1.
If the ongoing developments are any indication, the correspondent's only mistake is that his investigations, which he is legally and constitutionally bound to do, brought to light certain leads into the infamous triple murder case. This led to a Deputy Superintendent rank police officer ringing up this Journalist from Rajouri like a professional goon of a lawless land, threatening to send a Munshi to drag this Journalist out of office and then, pack him in a vehicle to Rajouri.
He kept ringing this Journalist despite being clearly told that whatever the Journalist knew was there in the paper and they should do their work professionally and see if the leads take them closer to unveiling the murder mystery. But the DySP seemed convinced that this Journalist was a criminal and should report to Rajouri Thana Munshi to help the SIT which includes professionally trained officer to unveil the murder mystery.
Who does know what the incompetent police officers do when they are unable to crack murder mysteries. Book some Gunna based goons or silence the voices especially those in the media raising the red flag so that the case goes unreported and they are saved from the embarrassment of not being able to reach to the original culprits. This Journalist repeatedly requested the police officer to approach him professionally and leave the unprofessional goonda style business of threats.
This Journalist was agog that instead of sending any formal letter on the name of this correspondent, the head of SIT, who identified himself as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Rajouri, from a phone number 9419997255, made repeated phone calls, asking this correspondent to come Rajouri and get the statement recorded.
The officer kept threatening this correspondent. His words were "Either to come Rajouri or I would get court issue summons against you." On Nov 10, in the afternoon a phone call from the same number was received, and the officer who identified himself as DySP Rajouri asked this correspondent to visit Rajouri for recording of evidence.
When this correspondent asked him to send a formal letter in Jammu, the officer adamantly said that no letter would be send, but "you will have to come and I will talk to your editor", DySP said. Moreover, instead of sending letter, on November 11, once again the officer made a phone call from same mobile number and made very interesting statements. The officer asked this correspondent, from whom you got the information regarding the pistol bullets found at the scene of murder.
Unaware of the directions of Supreme Court of India, which give right to a journalist not to disclose his source, the caller asked this correspondent to disclose the source. "Before publishing the story, you should have contacted us", the officer said, and when this correspondent replied him that on that day, this correspondent had made repeated phone calls to him for his version on August 21, 2014, but he had not picked up his phone.
While replying on phone call, today when this correspondent said that repeated phone calls were made, the officer replied that on that day, he was unaware that this correspondent was calling him.
When this correspondent took official number of DySP NK Chib from Police Control Room Rajouri, on that phone number, some other person replied and said that DySP had gone to meet "Sahib Ji" and has forgot phone here.
When this correspondent contacted SSP Rajouri, Haseeb Mugal, he said that any investigating officer could call anybody for questioning regarding the investigation. When apprised him about the phone calls, he said that though he was unaware about the matter that DySP was calling for investigation but as per law Investigating Officer could call anyone, except few.
When asked him, why not the IO visited Jammu for getting information, he said that Investigating Officer would not move and the people having information regarding the matter would be summoned to Rajouri for questioning.
