Forgets the past, lashes out at NC rebel for calling his daughters liabilities | Omar named 1400 rape victims | | BivekMathur Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 11: Forgetting that he had revealed that identity of the 1400 rape victims in the Legislative Assembly in 2011, "opportunistic" Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today targeted his party rebel Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, who is contesting on Congress ticket from Ganderbal, for calling his three unmarried daughters as liabilities. Surcharged with emotions and political opportunism -Omar might have forgotten the embarrassment to the society and fairer sex which was observed when he had to apologize for his mistake of revealing the identity of 1400 rape victims with their names after a pressure was built on him by the Leader of Opposition Mehbooba Mufti in the House who had accused Omar of stigmatizing the victims by revealing their identities in the Assembly. The PDP supremo had pulled up Omar by saying it was in contravention to Section 228 (A) of the IPC and Supreme Court ruling on the matter. It was a day when Omar apologized before the pious House of legislature saying-"As Chief Minister and as a Home Minister since the department is mine, I would like to tender an apology to all those rape victims whose names were mentioned. It should not have happened. I will ensure that it is never repeated again. But I have a deep sense of shame and a deep sense of apology that these names were shared." Pertinently Omar Abdullah government had released a 90-page document. The document quite shockingly, revealed the names, parentage and addresses of rape victims in the past five years. The reply was tabled in the house in reply to a question of former MLC Hiranagar SubashChander Gupta. However, same Omar Abdullah today tweeted: "The Cong candidate from Ganderbal while declaring his assets says his three unmarried daughters are a liability. #Shame on him." |
