Troops on high alert at borders after intelligence input of infiltration | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 11 : Following reports that agencies across the border were planning to assist groups of militants in sneaking into Jammu and Kahsmir troops, guarding the LOC and the IB, have been told to remain on the alert for foiling infiltration bids. Official sources said that reports indicated that Pakistani forces have started concentrating on the LOC for helping militants in crossing over to Jammu and Kashmir. During the last three months or so agencies in Pakistan had focused their attention on pushing groups of militants from across the IB.That the LOC in Kashmir was being targeted for infiltration has been indicated by recent ingress bids made by militants from across Uri and Gurez. According to these sources Pakistani agencies, especially the Army, were upset over the marked drop in the level of violence in Jammu and Kashmir. The main reason for this is that decline in the level of violence could provide opportunity for voters to come out in large numbers for participating in the ensuing Assembly election. Separatists in Kashmir have already given a call to people to remain indoors on the days of polling because they want to demonstrate to the world that a situation has emerged in the state where people favour settlement of the Kashmir issue and not participation in the poll process. It is in this connection that Pakistani agencies were trying to trigger violence in Kahsmir which would help separatists in enforcing their poll boycott call. |
