KEA voices concern over delay in rehabilitation of flood affected people, sounding of poll bugle | | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Nov 11: Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) has castigated the role of both central and state government for their alleged failure to come to the rescue of the flood affected people of the state. The Alliance has also taken pot shots over the holding of assembly elections in the state. KEA chief spokesman, Siraj Ahmad said that a special meeting of the executive council of the Alliance was held today under the chairmanship of Mohammad Iqbal Trumboo. The meeting took stock of post flood scenario vis-a-vis the relief and rehabilitation of the public in general and the business fraternity in particular. "The members showed their anguish and deep concern for initiating the untimely electoral process in the state. This has virtually put the relief and rehabilitation process on the back burner. The people and the trade community in post flood situation needed help and support from the state and the central govt for rehabilitation, but the callous approach of the governments by declaring elections has exposed their hunger for power rather than to mitigate the sufferings of the people," said Siraj. The KEA chief spokesman said that members were apprised about the memoranda submitted to the state and the central govt through SERF. He said by virtue of the memoranda the central government was impressed upon to approve a rehabilitation package in lieu of the devastation caused by the flood in September. "In the meeting held with Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on 23-10-14 at Srinagar he was urged upon to provide immediate interim relief to the small shopkeepers and people who have lost their shops and homes in the recent floods till the final rehabilitation package is approved. This was demanded so that the affected people restart and re-establish their livelihood and shelter," said Siraj. The KEA chief spokesman said that assurance was given that rehabilitation package would be adopted on fast track basis. He while quoting the members present in the meeting said that non seriousness of central government in the rehabilitation process has compounded the hardships of the people of Kashmir more so during the winter. "The members appreciated the initiative taken by the SLBC headed by Mushtaq Ahmad for announcing a revival/rehabilitation scheme for flood affected borrowers. However, the scheme in not implemented in letter and spirit by the branch heads of the banks operating in the valley. It was urged upon the lead bank to ensure that all banks and their respective branch heads be made accountable for hassle free implementation of the said scheme," said Siraj. The KEA chief spokesman said the members informed the meeting that the insurance companies are not respecting the order of the High Court and instead are putting the affected people and business community to inconvenience by asking for unreasonable formalities thereby delaying their payments. |
