Jammu, May 25: As the BJP ministers and legislators are enjoying a pleasant weather in Kashmir power crisis has worsened in Jammu region as more than two dozen localities of Jammu city faced unscheduled power cuts in sweltering heat on Monday. Sources informed Early Times that entire Gandhi Nagar division today observed unscheduled curtailment of two-three hours, causing inconvenience to people of the many localities. "Power supply remained effected at Sainik colony, Trikuta Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Sanjay Nagar, Digina, Satwari and other parts falling under Gandi Nagar division, a part of eight hours scheduled curtailment of power", sources said. With rise in temperature and unscheduled power cuts in city, people have started hitting the streets but the state government has not responded to overcome the seasonal problems which take place every year in summer. The resident of Sainik Colony said: "It is difficult to bear the scheduled cuts, but frequent and long unscheduled power curtailments have made life worse. Frequent power cuts had become a permanent feature in the city, since mercury on rise." "The entire region has expressed its concern, it was expected, the people who, earlier had talked a lot to develop Jammu and are sharing power with PDP will respond to the woe of Jammuites, but it seems they have forgotten us", said Puran Singh a resident of Sainik Colony, adding that the Deputy Chief Minister should clarify why the Jammuites were left to reel under the scorching heat. Meanwhile, Official of PDD wishing not to be named said the Jammu region was being supplied about 650 MW and the shortfall was being met by enforcing 8 to 12 hours curtailments in the unmetered areas. The remaining power shortage was being covered by enforcing power cuts even in the metered areas. He said to prevent unwanted cuts, department needs more funds to mend and replace outdated cables, transformers. When contacted, Executive Engineer, PDD Gandhi Nagar Division Arvind Chibber said that due a technical snag in main transmission line curtailment of power was done for one and half hour. "As soon as the technical snag was fixed the power supply was restored", he added. |
