Early Times Report

Jammu, May 25: Terming the suspension of Dr Sushil Pandita as unjustified and illegal doctors on Monday demanded Dr Pandita, who was suspended on the charges of negligence last week by the hospital administration, be reinstated forthwith.
Resident Doctors Association GMC Jammu and Associated Hospitals along with Medical Teachers Association GMC Jammu and Paramedical Staff Union suspended routine ward work, OPDs and Operation Theatres against the "unethical and illegal" suspension of the doctor.
President RDA Dr Neeraj Sharma warned that they would not resume the routine work till the incumbent Principal is removed and enquiry is initiated against him for "illegal suspensions" and procurement of "substandard intravenous fluids and drip sets."
The higher ups should first conduct proper enquiries before taking any action whosoever is concerned in any case.
While, Registrars and PG doctors barged into the room of GMC Principal and raised slogans against him and others.
They demanded revocation of the suspension of Dr Pandita, constitution of the enquiry committee, lodging of missing complaint (as the above said medico was missing since the time of verbal suspension), and issuance of corrigendum as news of negligence by Dr Pandita was "false, frivolous and fabricated."
Moreover, they demanded immediate removal of the puppet Principal of GMC hospital Jammu Dr Ghanshyam Dev. They asked how can one suspend a senior registrar without any formal enquiry.
Expressing dismay over the suspension of Dr Sushil Pandita Registrar Medicine of GMC hospital Jammu for medical negligence, President of Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) Dr Nisar ul Hassan said suspension of the doctor is injustice.
"The suspension is against Supreme Court judgment wherein a doctor cannot be held liable for medical negligence unless established by an expert panel, "he stated and added that doctors accused of negligence couldn't be arrested simply because charges have been leveled against them. A simple lack of care, error of judgment or an accident, even fatal, will not constitute culpable medical negligence. It is unfortunate that doctors in the state are suspended and arrested for medical negligence without inquiry which is disservice to the society.
He alleged that doctors were blamed for 500 infant deaths in GB pant hospital in 2012. However, allegation turned out to be false as later it came to fore that infants had died due to to substandard drugs. There are serious lapses in healthcare and infrastructural deficiencies in government hospitals which are responsible for deaths but authorities in order to cover up their inefficiencies blame doctors.
