Tension grips Udhampur over sacrilegious act | Police lodge FIR, board of doctors formed for post-mortem on the bodies of animals | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 8: Tension gripped Udhampur on Thursday over a sacrilegious act, with people holding protests and businessmen closing their establishments. According to police sources, two carcasses of slaughtered cows and one of a calf were found behind the SDM office, Chenani. As the incident spread, a large number of people took to the streets. The Udhampur town also wore a deserted look as people downed the shutters of their shops to lodge their protest. The angry people blocked the highway as a result of which the traffic remained paralysed for hours together. The protestors were pacified after the intervention of the police and district administration. To thwart any untoward incident, the deputy commissioner, Udhampur, and some senior police officers rushed to the highway at Domail, Chenani, and spoke to the protesters. DIG (Udhampur-Reasi range) Surinder Gupta, who came from London after completing his official course, went straightway to Udhampur to pacify the protesters. When contacted, DIG Gupta said that for the post-mortem of the two dead cows and a calf, a board of doctors was constituted, the report of which was awaited, adding, even the report of FSL was also awaited. He said that a case under section 298 A (Cow Slaughtering) had been registered and investigation was in progress. |
