Jammu, Jan 18: Signaling the making of an interesting political controversy, the National Conference has written to the government for examining and investigation the affairs of the Muslim Wakf Board which was created after dissolution of the Muslim Auqaf Trust.
The most power religious philanthropy of Jammu and Kashmir, the Muslim Auqaf Trust remained under the management of National Conference and particularly the Abdullah family ever since it was founded by Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. However, on September 8, 2003 the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Government took over management of MAT major political development which could simply have been described as a “bloodless overnight coup”.
Looking after 89 shrines in 39 other properties in Jammu and Kashmir the MAT was always a power symbol for the National Conference till the PDP led coalition government took it over on a wide range of reasons: alleged mismanagement of funds and properties and not efforts on utilization of shrine donations for the public good. Jammu, Jan 18: The all-important Jammu-Srinagar national highway, which is the only surface link between Kashmir and the rest of the country, was today closed following heavy snowfall and landslides.
Over 2000 vehicles have been stranded at several places on the 300-km long stretch, which was blocked following incessant snowfall at Jawahir Tunnel and Patnitop and landslides at Panthial, traffic police officials said.
The highway also became slippery at several places in Ramban-Banihal belt today, they said.

Srinagar, Jan 18: The Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist group, blamed for the November 26 Mumbai attacks, has said it was ready to shun arms if the Kashmir issue was resolved peacefully.
In a statement issued to the media here late Saturday, Abdullah Gaznavi, the spokesman of the outfit said: “If the world listens to our cries, and plays its role in resolving the Kashmir issue, there is no point continuing the fight."

New Delhi, Jan 18: Warning that the law and order situation would be seriously impacted if criminal courts continued to be flooded with cases, Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan has proposed that 10,000 more subordinate courts be set up to clear the staggering backlog of 3.5 crore cases.
"There are 15,000 subordinate courts but only about 13,800 something actually are working strength. At least 10,000 courts more should be there," the CJI said.
He said as the head of the judiciary, the biggest worries for him is not corruption but the existence of less number of courts to deal with the increasing pendency of cases.
