Turncoats on prowl, no space for virtuous
1/19/2014 11:32:03 PM
Bashir Assad Jammu, Jan 19: As most of the intelligentsia and virtuous people in Jammu and Kashmir, since last two decades, stayed away from politics conspicuously , political turncoats and criminals of all sorts have invaded the political arena. As the elections to the State Assembly draw close, political turncoats have started shifting their loyalties and this time around about a hundred of political defaulters including some high profile bureaucrats have either changed loyalties or have joined the political parties as according to political commentators of Kashmir, politics is the only profitable profession of the contemporary times. The trend of changing colours and joining politics by some people at the fag ends of their lives has of course changed the dynamics of politics in Kashmir. Though on one hand the political leaders of all the parties pledge to involve youth in political decision making internally and part of governance when in power, the fact remains that there is hardly any space for youngsters in these political parties. At present six former bureaucrats inclu...

BJP confusing minority politics with Art 370
1/19/2014 11:31:42 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 19: A subtle though pronounced change of stance by the BJP on Art 370 has hurt its supporters. The change of stance had also given its opponent a handle to dub the party has opportunistic and dropping its stand on minority appeasement. BJP president Rajnath Singh addressing party executive meet in N Delhi had said that if Art 370 had helped in development of the State than they wouldn't oppose it. It is the repeat of what Rajnath Singh had said at a Modi rally in Jammu on Dec 1. The gradual and deliberate change in stance of the party which had held revocation of Art 370 as corner stone of its ideology has not only shocked its ardent supports who have start...

Verification of voter lists turns out to be farce
No BLO present at any polling station
1/19/2014 11:31:36 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 19: The concern shown by the office of the Deputy Commissioner to verify the names of the voters in revised voter lists turned out to be a farce, as no Block Level Officer (BLO) was present in the polling station for verification and the voters were wandering from one polling station to other to check their names in the voter list. The office of the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu issued advertisement in one of the leading local dailies of Jammu appealing all the voters of Jammu Districts to visit their respective polling stations and contact the concerned BLO and check the electoral roll if their names and other details were entered correctly.' It's Congress' posturing, not decision
Pre-poll alliance with NC
1/19/2014 11:31:28 PM
Neha JAMMU, Jan 19: On Saturday, a number of Congress leaders targetted National Conference (NC) and denounced it as an outfit with "mentally bankrupt" leaders. Infact, they issued a written statement to that effect. Some of the signatories included MLC and Congress district President Doda, Naresh Kumar Gupta, MLC Subash Gupta, MLC Sham Lal Bhagat and Secretary JKPCC Thakur Jugal Bhandari. All of them belong to the Ghulam Nabi Azad camp. The statement came a day after NC leader Mir Sajjad Shaheen made some comments against former minister and MLA G M Saroori. Under garb of Roshni Act property worth Rs 6 Crores sold for 5 Lakhs in heart of Srinagar
Instead of three kanals owners stake claim for eight kanals
1/19/2014 11:32:21 PM
Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Jan 19: At a time when different investigation agencies are about to take action against 'pampered' beneficiaries under Roshni Act yet another scam under the Act has come to fore in the summer capital of state. All this has been done to give benefit to a business group so that they could avoid payment of stamp duty. Evasion of stamp duty by people buying properties has become a norm in Kashmir and property worth crores has been seen as purchased by paying few lakh rupees and that too in the heart of summer capital of state. Later on the property is shown to be transferred under the Roshni Act with huge loss being suffered by state ex-chequer. Farooq Ahmad K...

Population, area of Jammu 'more' as compared to Kashmir
New administrative units
1/19/2014 11:31:09 PM
Rustam JAMMU, Jan 19: It is not only the ruling National Conference and the Congress which have been working in unison to harm the under developed Jammu by not creating sufficient administrative units needed to cater to its people and giving a preferential treatment to the already overdeveloped Kashmir. Certain Kashmir-based elements in and out of the administration too have been busy in spreading misinformation with a view to create an impression in the Valley that the Mustaq Ganai report on new administrative units is rational, balanced and does justice to all the three regions of the state. The Ganai report, which is being roundly condemned in Jammu by the suffering people, recommen...
