| PM dedicates Baglihar, J&K richer by Rs 900 Crores | | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
CHANDERKOTE, Oct 10: In what can be described as realization of a long pending dream, the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh dedicated to the people of Jammu and Kashmir first phase of 450 Mega Watt Baglihar hydro-electric project built on River Chenab here in Ramban district constructed at a cost of Rs 5200 Crores.
The star studded inauguration ceremony was attended by the Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, Water Resources Minister Saif-ud-Din Soz, J&K Governor NN Vohra, former Chief Ministers Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Ghulam Nabi Azad besides a host of political leaders from different parties.
The Prime Minister said that with the commissioning of the first phase of the project, the State would earn revenue of Rs.900 crore every year which could be utilized on the schemes meant for development and welfare of the people. SRINAGAR, Oct 10: Two persons were killed and 75 people, including 34 security personnel, in firing by security personnel on violent street protesters led by separatists against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
The violent protests erupted in parts of the city and Baramulla district town shortly after Friday prayers when hundreds of people took to streets in the valley where normal life was hit by a strike called by separatists' coordination committee against the Prime Ministers visit.

JAMMU, Oct 10: The Centre and the J&K government signed an agreement to set up three hydro projects to harness over 2100 MW of electricity in the state on Friday.
Under the project, a joint venture company would be formed to tap over 2100 MW of hydro power by commissioning three power projects on River Chenab.
Speaking on the occasion, Jairam Ramesh said that work in this direction would start soon and a joint venture company would be floated at the earliest to undertake the process.
He said J&K has vast potential for hydro power and the need is to tap it for giving boost to its economy.
