| Gupkar Road wants Chewang as ‘consensus candidate’ | | NC-Cong stand-off continues on Leh in CC meet | | |
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz
SRINAGAR, Apr 4: The first ever meeting of the Coordination Committee of the ruling coalition partners here today failed to resolve the stand-off on the Leh-Kargil constituency as National Conference (NC) staked its claim on the state’s “second safest seat” over the logic that it had bagged three of the four segments in the recent Assembly elections in Ladakh region. In its last-ditch efforts to protect the local camaraderie with the Budhhist votebank, NC is now understood to have projected former LBA Chief, Thuptsan Chewang, as the “consensus candidate”.
CC’s crucial meeting on the seat sharing between the coalition partners took place at Dr Farooq Abdullah’s Gupkar Road residence which received an unusual guest, Prof Saif-ud-din Soz, probably for the first time after he quit NC in 1999. Now a Union Minister and J&K Pradesh Congress Committee chief, Soz participated in the meeting alongwith his party colleagues, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and former Deputy CM, Mangat Ram Sharma. NC was represented by Dr Abdullah, Chief Minister Oma...

| Are Taliban about to knock J&K Doors? | | | |
HAMMAD SALIF
Jammu, Apr 4: If State Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda’s assessment and inputs is anything to go by the Taliban may soon be knocking the doors of Jammu and Kashmir.
At a time when state is celebrating the marked decline in incidents of violence and claiming credits for its strong security apparatus, the top cop’s authoritative statement on closing in of Taliban is quite disturbing news. Indian security establishment had already been wary of Taliban’s spill over to India from frontier provinces of Pakistan where they have almost taken over the reins, particularly in Swat Valley.
J&K’s Police Chief Khoda today told a television news channel at Taliban are getti...
| | | | In BJP, it’s strange but OK | | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 4: Seen in the campaign promos on television screens it seems that all is well but inside Bhartiya Janta Party camp things are not quite at ease.
On achieving a high level of success people are often afraid of a wisdom quote which says that “there is a nadir for every zenith”. In last assembly elections BJP swooped 11 seats which was perhaps highest in its graph in the state even if the future is also taken into account. Given the success of 2008 assembly elections, the BJP stood at highest prospects of securing two Lok Sabha seats in Jammu province but bickering within the party marring fortunes.
What threatens BJP’s winning fortunes is a lack of trust wi...
| | | | Wake up call for Govt as Rs 129 Cr sewerage projects hangs up | | | |
A D SINGH
Jammu, Apr 4: Uprooted roads messed up lanes and the rutted streets have no doubt become a feature of the city of temples and as the inconvenience of the commuters continues without the responsibilities being adjudged the inhabitants of the city may expect the things to improve soon. The Detailed Project Report of the Rs 129 Crore Sewerage Project as such skipped the ground realities further the poor coordination of the different department of the government has taken toll on the smooth execution of the project and the roads excavated for laying of the sewerage pipes though formally restored does not seem to be pleasing for the commuters but for the time being the usual game ...
| | | | Kathua-Doda to decide which Singh is real King | | | |
SALMAN NIZAMI
Jammu, April 4: As ‘Singh is King’ becomes the satirical buzzword in north Indian politics, a real contest for the real King is here in Kathua-Udhampur-Udhampur Doda Parliamentary constituency where Rajputs dominate the competition scene.
Dr Nirmal Singh of BJP today filed his nomination papers among 15 others taking the total number of contestants to 21. Though, the main contest is between Choudhary Lal Singh of Congress and Dr Nirmal Singh of BJP but Prof Bhim Singh of Panthers Party has all the potential of making it a triangular contest and Balbir Singh of Peoples Democratic Party cannot be just counted out as yet another key player.
The filing of nomination st...
