Jammu, Oct 3: A Sub Inspector and five women received injuries in clashes that took place at Tali Morh area when police tried to disperse protesters ahead of VIP movement on Janipur road.
According to the eyewitnesses, the family members and relatives of Rajinder Kumar son of Tirath Ram a resident of Mana Basti in New Plot area of Janipur came out on the road at New Plot and blocked the road in protest against the alleged murder of their son. Amid shouting anti-police slogans, they said, the protesters, mostly the women staged a dharna blocking the movement of the vehicles for nearly half an hour demanding probe into the alleged murder of their son. According to the victim family their son was allegedly killed by a person with the involvement of his wife in their locality and they threw his body before their residence on August 10, 2013, when Jammu was shut following Kishtwar violence and strict curfew was imposed. While the protesters were taking out demonstration, they said, a police team from Sarwal led by its Police Post Incharge SI Sachinder Pal Singh rushed there and they tried to remove demonstrators from there.As the protesters remained adamant and did not allow movement of the vehicular traffic, the eyewitnesses said, it prompted police to restore to baton charge to disperse them and clear the road for the movement of traffic.
"There was a VIP movement at the time of demonstration, when police cane charged protesters and it further aggravated situation since people from the area joined protested and they attacked police with stones," the eyewitnesses said. The peaceful demonstration turned violent and it left SI S.P. Singh wounded critically in stone pelting, while five women also sustained injuries in heavy baton charge by the police. While the injured were evacuated from the spot to GMC hospital, they said, the police officer was shifted to Government Dental Hospital.
