| Urges panchayat members to follow Gandhi's teachings | | Sagar hails Jammu people? | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 3: The Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj held a Mega Gram Maha Sabha to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Presiding over the function, the concerned Minister, Ali Mohammad Sagar surprisingly complemented the people of District Jammu for implementing the Centrally Sponsored Schemes. This perhaps is the first time that a Valley centric Minister has hailed the people of Jammu. The achievements of the Jammu people in sports and other fields have gone unheeded. While the people of Jammu have a reason to rejoice (for Sagar's compliments), the panches and sarpanches were once again left high and dry with the Minister promising to look into their demands. They had demanded an increase in their honorarium. It is an irony that after more than two years of their election, the Ministry is still promising them to `look into their demands'. The Minister also promised to involve them in decision making and planning. Sagar could not crack a cruder joke. He knows the decisions of the Government are taken in the `kitchen cabinet' of the Sheikh Family. Therefore, there is absolutely no scope for involving panches and sarpanches from rural areas in the decision making process at least in the current regime. The Minister also advised the panchayat members to follow the path shown by the Father of Nation. Well Mahatma Gandhi fought against exploitation. If the panches and sarpanches follow his advise then the days of his ministry are numbered. |
