| PDP fully prepared to take on NC over Singh revelations | | |

SRINAGAR, Oct 3: Opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is all set to initiate a special debate on General VK Singh's revelations in the Assembly tomorrow if Speaker allows a discussion on the issue.
Though there is no mention of the discussion on VK Singh issue in the business listed for Friday, the PDP is likely to demand discussion on the motion moved by it under Rule 199 read with 200.
Given the mood of the legislators, it is most likely that Speaker may allow discussion on the motion on Friday morning.
"The motion is with speaker, he has entertained the motion but has not given his ruling as yet. However, both treasury and opposition benches were very enthusiastic to discuss the issue on the very first day but the discussion was deferred due to holidays" said an observer.
"Our party has already given a notice for discussion under rule 199 read with rule 200 of the Rules of Conduct of Business. Given the mood of all the legislators across the board speaker shall entertain the notice for early discussion" senior PDP leader Nizamuddin Bhat told Early Times. When asked what would be the future course of action if the Speaker does not allow discussion on the motion on Friday, Bhat said, "in case of any difficulty our legislature party leader will give us the instructions accordingly which the party will follow both on the floor of the house and outside the house".
When contacted, PDP President and leader of the opposition, Mehbooba Mufti said the legislators of her party were fully prepared to participate in the discussion on motion served by her party seeking special discussion on General (Rtd) VK Singh's revelation that Ministers in J&K have been receiving money from the Army.
"I don't know whether the Speaker would allow discussion on the motion tomorrow, the discussion may be deferred for one day more because tomorrow is Friday" said Mehbooba. She however said her party was fully prepared to discuss the issue any time when it comes up for discussion.
It merits a mention here that PDP had moved two motions in the legislative Assembly and Council to discuss the recent expose made about the extra constitutional methods adopted in J&K reportedly since 1947 to subvert democratic system in the State. The party served notice for special discussion in the subject.
The party had also filed an adjournment motion for discussing the series of killings of innocent people in incidents at Gool, Kishtwar, Shopian and Markundal Bandipora and fidayeen attack on Hiranagar police station and Samba Army camp. The CPI(M) leader MY Tarigami had also moved two motions on the same issues. The killings were discussed on Tuesday but the VK Singh issue is yet to come up for discussion. |
