JAMMU, Oct 3: Tarnishing its credibility as the premier anti graft institution of the State, the team of the State Vigilance Organization that was deputed to investigate into alleged multi crore scam in the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) rather than grilling the accused accepted undue protocol of the University and the Shrine Board authorities in the form of free chopper sorties and special Pooja at the cave shrine.
Sources informed Early Times that following a complaint filed by one Udhay Chand before Anti-Corruption court, SVO was directed to investigate allegations of embezzlement of crores of Rupees vis-a-vis undue benefits given to some blue eyed candidates at the University. "Following complaint , a team of Vigilance officers visited the SMVD University campus on September 3, but the team instead of performing its duty preferred to visit holy cave of Mata Vaishno Devi while on official duty", sources alleged.
They further informed that at around 10 AM, a three member Vigilance team visited the campus and straightway drove to the office of Vice Chancellor and presented the copy of complaints. "Without carrying out any investigations, the team was escorted by Private Secretary to VC Vinod Sharma, Chief Security Officer PS Charak (retired DSP of JKP) to the Guest house of University and were extended overwhelming protocol", sources alleged.
They further added that while SMVDU authorities took time to file their objection/ reply, the team was offered to visit holy-cave shrine for which honest officers of Vigilance department were given helicopter tickets and priority slips of Darshans of cave-shrine.
"Registrar of SMVDU an accused in the complaint, who is the wife of additional CEO, SMVDSB ensured VVIP treatment of the investigators who forgot the purpose of their visit" said a source in the university, questioning the propriety of the conduct of SVO team.
After their (team) arrival at the campus again, VVIP treatment was given to them at official guest house at about 7:30 PM. The concocted report made by the SMVDU official was presented to the SVO team. The officer left the campus at 7:50 pm leaving a serious question mark on the objectivity and fairness of the SVO's investigations.
