| Efficient Traffic Management System required at Lakahanpur | | | Arun Trisal
Kathua, Oct 8: Lakhanpur, the gateway of Jammu and Kashmir is putting up most unfortunate impression for being the important destination of vehicles coming from various parts of the state.
State's worst traffic jam ever is witnessed here as vehicular traffic is seen stretched more than one kilometer.
It has become most congested part of Jammu and Kashmir with huge traffic jams which have become intolerable and causes of tragedies.
The prevailing queue length of stranded heavy goods carrier vehicles is the main reason of congestion that is further leading to worst traffic jams and delay for other motorists.
Most of the area of road of National Highway at Lakhanpur is used for parking and stranding of trucks, buses and light vehicles and on the other side, poor maintenance of road where potholes are formed which makes the complete absence of rapid transit system while the administration, police and traffic police in the area have miserably failed to check the surging problem.
Lakhanpur as gateway of Jammu and Kashmir is given the status of most prime and important Government spot for conducting of the commercial activities and a major source of state revenue and even it reflects the entire impression of the state's culture and dignity before the tourists who arrive from rest of the country and abroad.
Keeping this in view, the government should adopt best traffic management system for rapid transit at Lakhanpur so that its optimum use could be done in better way. The Govt's frequent tall claims to bring development at Lakhanpur seems to be falling flat as removing the traffic congestion problem remains as usual which has become the headache for common man and can be seen as an example of tragedy for commoners that lead to number of disadvantages like wasting of time of motorist and passengers.
The passenger and merchandise vehicles have to spend lot of time at the toll post causing heavy traffic jams at the point. Both the excise and sales tax departments operating at the toll post are understaffed as a result of which traffic is not regulated properly. And even higher chance of collisions due to tight spacing and constant stopping-and-going is always there. These are the serious threats at the gate of Jammu and Kashmir due to the traffic jams which is calls for government attention to adopt an intelligent Traffic Management system, so the people could be emancipated from this curse. |
