| 'Rolling leaders' grab positions in no time, committed cadres remain 'bystanders' | | Irony in state unit of BJP | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 8: In run up to announcement of Parliamentary polls which can happen anytime in current year, fervor in state unit of BJP in contrast to all other parties is ebbing out. The enthusiasm is in fact inversely proportional to what is being seen in all political parties which are fast gearing up for the polls in one way or the other. There is a specific reason to this reverse trend - the sagging morale of the cadres and state functionaries associated with the party for a long time. And there is again a specific ground for this- the influx of leaders from all other parties into BJP- a trend that all other parties may seen as consolidating factor ahead of polls but has not augured well with the party. Sources said joining of some leaders from parties like National Conference and PDP in recent past and occasionally from its rival Congress instead of doing any good to state unit of BJP has done more harm. While this is a normal tendency seen in the political spectrum that leaders for some reasons quit the parties they remained associated with for years and enter into the fold of other organizations , no matter that leaning may be diagonally opposed with respect to ideologies, this inclination of politics of opportunism has caused some internal damage to BJP. Sources said the new entrants may or may not help the party in the long run, but in the process of embracing what many feel as 'every Tom, Dick and Harry…', the committed cadres and functionaries feel pushed to the wall. Sources said there is a growing feeling of resentment on this account with many convicted leaders of BJP, particularly those who have not been able to make it to 'greater heights' due to seniority factor within the organization. While they wait for years to reach a particular post, what obstacles their chances is this lot of 'new entrants' who try to grab positions and posts by resorting to any tactics. Sources said state unit of BJP in the past has seen some leaders from other parties making it straight to senior posts within no time which is not only in defiance to normal trends but in violation of party constitution which says that no person can be given higher posts before years of joining the party. This norm is true even for those who break their seniority by quitting the party and re joining it after some gap. However, in both the cases, new entrants, so to say rolling leaders enjoy the key positions, leaving those in waiting for the same high and dry, sources said adding that in some cases they choose to give self proclaimed posts and positions in the organization to which the leadership neither objects nor resists. |
