| Government authorizes Chief Secretary to take decision on Employees’ issue | | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Oct 8: The state government has authorized Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khanday to take a final call on future negotiations with Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) leaders of government employees. This was informed by Law & Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mir Saifullah while responding to the issue of employees strike and the arrest of JCC leaders in the legislative assembly today. The minister said that chief secretary has also been authorized to take a decision whether to drop cases against JCC leaders and also to decide about their likely release from the Central Jail in Srinagar. Raising the issue in zero hour, PDP legislator from Sangrama constituency, Syed Basharat Bukhari said that some of the employee leaders have called him up. Basharat said that the employees raised concern over the continuing detention of some of their leaders. He said the employees wanted to know whether their leaders would be released. On this the Law & Parliamentary affairs minister said that Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has already authorized the Chief Secretary to take a decision on the future of JCC leaders. He said the employees should get in touch with the Chief Secretary and discuss their demands with him so that there is some solution to the whole fiasco. CPI (M) legislator from Kulgam, Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami also joined the chorus and renewed his demand for withdrawal of cases against JCC leaders. He also pitched for the release of JCC leaders and said that state government should carry out talks with employee leaders so that there is an end to impasse between the state government and government employees. National Panthers Party (NPP) legislator from Ram Nagar, Harshdev Singh also came down heavily on the state government for continuing with the detention of JCC leaders. He said government should immediately release the JCC leaders and withdraw cases against them so that the employees are encouraged to come forward to hold a dialogue with the government. MLA Bandipora, Nizam-ud-din Bhat said that he has received inputs that the employee leaders have gone on hunger strike in Central Jail, Srinagar. The PDP legislator said the house should be informed about the veracity of such reports adding that government should come out with a statement on the floor of house. Speaker, Mubarak Gul also raised his concern over the issue and asked the government to examine the complaints that employees have proceeded on hunger strike in Central Jail here. He said the government should also look into the demands of some members of the house that cases should be withdrawn against JCC leaders so that they are released. |
