| ATM machine with Rs 4 lakh cash stolen | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 27: A group of unidentified robbers late Thursday night made a desperate attempt to loot an ATM in the densely populated Nanak Nagar area but when they failed to broke open the machine they decamped with the same after uprooting it from inside the room with the help of a vehicle. An estimated Rs 4.3 lakh were looted from the ATM machine, official sources said. The incident, which according to eyewitnesses, took place at around 2.00 a.m in Sector 7 came to light at around 5:30 am on Friday when locals of the area alerted the police. The room where ATM machine was fitted was without any security guard and flouted basic security norms as well. The unit was powerless and without surveillance camera at the time of the robbery. Hours after the shocking incident the ATM machines of various other banks were without security guard. As police launched the manhunt to nab the robbers the senior police officers took review of the security at the ATM centres. DIG Jammu Shakeel Ahmed Beig told reporters on the spot," the ATM centre was powerless and without CCTV equipment when the robbers struck and ran away with ATM machine on a TATA mobile. The police officer said the concerned bank and all others would be issued strict guidelines to ensure security of the ATM machines and customers. According to official sources the ATM machine was later tracked down near Sarore in Bishnah but the cash box was missing in it. SSP Jammu Atul Goel said that the police have identified the gang and hopefully we will arrest them within days. |
