| Safdarjang Hospital diagnosed him as 'Schizophrenic', reluctant to share history of diagnosis | | JK resident says GOI duped him | | Bivek Mathur Jammu, Dec 27: A resident of Jammu and Kashmir from Jourian area, earlier admitted in Safdarjang Hospital of New Delhi has alleged that he has been befooled by the Medical Board of the said hospital by diagnosing him as 'Schizophrenic' without any psychiatric treatment by the Doctors of the hospital. The complainant, Indu Bhushan Bali, said that he applied for a two year medical course in SSB Department on 05-12-1990 and after passing physical test, written test and interview he was selected for the course. According to him, despite completing two year course, he could not get the diploma/certificate for the said course. Further, he said that after he failed to get the certificate, he raised question over the training center as whether it was registered or not. He alleged that following this, he was shifted to Safdarjang Hospital, New Delhi for treatment where a medical Board diagnosed him as a patient of 'Paranoid Schizophrenia with border line personality traits'. Later on, he was terminated from the job citing reason that he has failed to perform his duty and is suffering from Occupational dysfunction. The complainant maintained that to know the grounds on which he was diagnosed as a patient of Schizophrenia, he through RTI Act 2005 approached to Government of India, Department of Psychiatry, Safdarjang hospital and VMCC, New Delhi following which he was replied by one of the doctors of the board -"On the basis of history, mental status examination, an opinion regarding the diagnosis was made by the Medical Board in respect of I B Bali and the board had opined that he should take regular psychiatric treatment and follow up". "To cross check the information, I made an appeal before the appellate authority of the hospital on 19-12-2013 disclosing my pain before him to know the 'history' but again I was asked to give them the registration number of the psychiatry OPD to trace the files of my diagnosis when I had submitted them all the documents regarding me with the fees required", he said. The aggrieved candidate maintained that he was deprived of the benefits of the job and is being paid pension owing to which his life has become miserable. |
