| No taker for Kitchloo's tirade against opposition | | Issueless NC | | Neha Jammu, Dec 27: The rehabilitated controversial MoS Home Sajjad Ahmad Kitchloo had on Thursday charged the opposition with hatching a conspiracy to disintegrate Jammu and Kashmir by exploiting regional and religious sentiments of the people. "Opportunist political parties are creating wedges between the communities on the basis of religion, region, caste and creed," he said while interacting with the deputations, who called upon him at Civil Secretariat in Jammu, and asked the people to "foil their attempts and machinations to uphold integrity and solidarity of all the three regions of the State". "Communal and anti-national forces are hell bent to polarize the society by exploiting regional and religious sentiments of the people of the State," he also said, and added that the NC-led Government has performed exceedingly well on all fronts. No one would buy any of the arguments the MoS advanced to mislead the people and hide the truth. He should have named the parties which, according to him, were conspiring against the unity and integrity of the state by exploiting regional and religious sentiments of the people. That he didn't name any political party and made a vague statement only proves that he had no specific charge against any opposition party. It's true that the opposition parties like the BJP, JKNPP, BSP, JSM, LBA, APSCC and several other small political groups have been criticizing the NC-Congress coalition Government for its failure to hand down to the people a State-centric and fair dispensation and mitigate the hardships of the people, but it is their fundamental right to pinpoint the short comings of the Government and expose its acts of omission and commission. Sajjad Ahmad Kitchloo or for that matter no other NC and Congress leader, can snatch the opposition's right to comment on the working of the Government. They would be regarded as sinners in case they ignore the misdeeds committed by and failures of the Government. The truth is that it is not the parties like the BJP, JKNPP, BSP, JSM and LBA and other Jammu and Ladakh-based organizations which are playing a divisive role by exploiting the religious and regional sentiments of the people. It is the NC and the Congress which have been, instead of focusing on matters of governance and the people's problems, indulging in bad politics by raking up emotive and controversial issues. The NC-Congress leadership would do well to play positive politics and not attack the opposition. It is the NC and the Congress which are playing communal and divisive games by demanding autonomy for Kashmir on religious ground or by talking about the 1975 Indira-Sheikh Abdullah accord. They should remember that it is this politics that has eroded their support-base across the State. |
