| A week on, Gandhi Commission report not made public | | No official word... Govt still silent on findings | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 27: Even as the political wranglings continue to envelope the Justice Gandhi Commission report on Kishtwar violence, full findings of the one man panel still remain elusive under wraps of mystery for reasons best known to Omar Abdullah led coalition Government in the State. Despite furore in the political corridors over a part of the report that was purportedly leaked to media, the Government has made no attempt to make this report public nor come out with any official version or statement on it. The only step it took in haste hours after this part became news was the re-induction of NC Minister Sajjad Kitchloo into Council of Ministers. Omar Abdullah led Government added another feather in its cap of dubious distinctions on deviating from following set rules and procedures on two major accounts in this case: one that soon after Justice Gandhi submitted what was termed as 'interim' report to General Administration Department on Friday last, the only thing that came to be known, rather drum beated is that the panel has given clean chit to Kitchloo and therefore it lost no time in organizing swearing ceremony within hours for him, as if it was known ahead that the Commission would exonerate him of any charges of involvement in violence . The step in other words was taken much ahead of the news getting floated into public circles. Second that even after the interim report was submitted why has the Government failed to come out with any statement so far. It has not even come out with the two liner official statement through its Information department that Justice Gandhi Commission has submitted its report to GAD. Needless to say that the Information department normally issues statements on matters which are not news worthy at all. Even after a week, it is not officially known that whom this Commission has held guilty and whom let free, other than of course NC leader Kitchloo. There is no official word about the officers who have been or would be suspended on charges, not known either clearly. The only thing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has come out with respect to the report post its submission to GAD is that his Government would 'analyse' the report and that '... stern action would be taken against officers found guilty by a one-man Commission. When his Government would analyse it and would be parametres for 'analysis', remains to be seen. Till then the findings continue to be wrapped in layers of mystery. |
