| Congress does a `tit for tat' to PDP | | To address rallies in South Kashmir | | Mustansir SRINAGAR, Dec 27: In a typical tit for tat politicla shows to match PDP's growing strength, senior Congress leaders are assembling in PDP's hot bastion, South Kashmir tomorrow to exhibit a show of strength aimed to put the opposition party on defensive. Realizing the intrusions made by opposition PDP in Doda-Kishtwar and Poonch- Rajouri once considered to be the hot bed for the party, Congress leaders are attempting to intrude in South Kashmir. Senior leaders, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Professor Saif-ud-Din Soz and Ambika Soni are scheduled to address series of public meetings in South Kashmir starting with a big rally in Shangus constituency currently represented by PDP's Peerzada Mansur Hussain on December 28. Congress leaders are also planning to address more rallies in South Kashmir's Devsar, Shopian and Wachi constituencies in coming days. Pertinently all these constituencies are currently represented by PDP in the state assembly. The Congress party is not only planning big rallies in South Kashmir but also contemplate a united show with Azad and Soz addressing these rallies jointly. The party holding big public rallies in South Kashmir is actually an attempt to put the opposition PDP on defensive which has made significant intrusions in Congress constituency in Jammu region, the political watchers observe. According to them PDP supremo, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has been working day and night in Jammu region particularly in erstwhile Doda district and Poonch and Rajouri districts and has to some extent in making his party vibrant in these districts which has really disturbed the Congress party in the region which is also facing a threat from the right wing BJP in coming elections. "It is a calculated political move to bring PDP on defensive and force it drop the idea of advancement in Congress constituency," observed a senior political commentator based in Srinagar. Meanwhile, Congress party is putting all its resources together to make the Saturday's Shangus show a grand success. Congress workers drawn across the South Kashmir will attend the rally. Both Azad and Soz will be seen sharing dais after a long time. Soz has already confirmed that they will address the public meeting together. Sources said the Congress leaders want to give an impression that there are no differences between the two leaders and all the workers and party supporters are united to strengthen the party in nook and corner of the state. Soz has said the party is scheduled to hold big public rallies in coming days in both Jammu and Srinagar. "Congress has emerged a vibrant force to reckon within the state. Now in order to strengthen it further, I will invite Ambika Soni, party incharge for Jammu and Kashmir Affairs and Ghulam Nabi Azad the Union Health Minister to attend these public rallies in near future," Soz was quoted as having said. |
