12/27/2013 10:18:34 PM
Srinagar, Dec 27: At least 12 employees of the consumer affairs and public distribution (CAPD) department have been suspended after an enquiry ordered by the department found them involved in the misappropriation of food grains from a go down in Lethpora area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district.
Official sources told Global News Service (GNS) that the enquiry ordered by the Director, CAPD, Mir Mushtaq to look into the embezzlement of about 10,000 quintals of rice from Lethpora go down last month, has indicted at least 12 employees of the department. The Director has ordered the suspension of the accused employees. Besides suspension, the accused have also been slapped with fine.
"The team submitted the report to the commissioner secretary and the directorate for further action. Acting on the findings, the directorate ordered the suspension of the tainted employees. They have also been fined," sources said. The report, sources said, has also recommended demotion of the accused employees.
Despite repeated attempts, Director, CAPD, Mir Mushtaq did not respond to the phone calls by GNS.
Pertinently, on Nov 21, the Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir police had raided stores of the CAPD and Food Corporation of India (FCI) Letpora, Pulwama in south Kashmir and found about 10,000 quintals of rice missing. The CB sealed the stores and filed a case FIR NO 29/2013 under sections 409, 420 RPC into the matter.
Besides CB, the directorate also ordered a probe into the embezzlement. After a month, the team probing the scam submitted its report to the higher ups, who acted on the report and ordered suspension of the tainted officials.
