| 10 years RI, fine Rs 1 lakh to narcotics smuggler | | | early times report Jammu, Dec 27 (JNF): Principal Sessions Judge Jammu today awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment and fine Rs 1 lakh to one Mohd Maqbool Raina who was facing trial in narcotics smuggling. After hearing both sides, Principal Sessions Judge Jammu Kartar Singh observed that it has been proved that the accused was found smuggling about eight kilogram charas which contravention involves commercial quantity. "The minimum punishment provided for possession of commercial quantity of contraband is ten years which may extend to twenty years and shall also be liable to fine which shall not be less than one lakh rupees, court observed. Court sentenced accused Mohd Maqbool Raina s/o Gh.Mohadain Raina r/o Village Fremoo Gadoul P/S and Tehsil Kokernag District Anantnag, Kashmir to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of ten years and to pay a fine of rupees one lakh. In default of payment of fine, the accused shall further undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of one year. According to the case Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) team entered in the Warehouse and found that one person was standing in front of booking counter of M/s Gati Ltd. with a gunny bag and during search four packets wrapped with brown tape were found. Accordingly, inventory was prepared and its weight came to 8.200 kgs and after removing black tape and packing material its weight was found 7.796 kgs. After completion of investigation challan was presented in the Court. |
