| LeT militant's DNA sample sent for analysis after identity row | | | early times report
Srinagar, Dec 27: The DNA samples of Lashker-e-Toiba (LET) militant from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, killed in a gunbattle in Budgam district, was sent for analysis today following claims that he was a local, the police said here.
"The post-mortem of the slain militant was conducted in Government Medical College (GMC) here. A team of doctors headed by Head of Department Forensic Medicines, GMC, Dr Farida Noor took the DNA samples of the slain militant for analysis," a police spokesman said.
He said the body of the slain militant has been kept in the mortuary at the medical college.
The suspected LeT militant was killed in a gunbattle with security forces at Hushroo village of Budgam yesterday.
While police identified the deceased as LeT operative Omer Bilal from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, some people claimed that he was a local and identified him as Showkat Ahmad Lone of Lalhar village of Pulwama district.
The spokesman said the body was shown to the family of Lone including his mother and two brothers Javaid Ahmad and Riyaz Ahmad.
"The family members did not authenticate the identity of the deceased as that of Lone, as was claimed by some people and as reported by a section of media," the spokesman said. |
