| Neither BJP nor Modi diluted stand on Article 370: Sitharaman | | | KUNAL SHRIVATSA JAMMU, Dec 27: Reaffirming that Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) hasn't changed or diluted its stand on abrogation of Article 370, the National Spokesperson of BJP Nirmala Sitharaman said today that such a constitutional arrangement invoked no real benefits for the state of Jammu & Kashmir, instead the Article 370 acted as a major obstacle in its overall growth and development. "The position of BJP on Article 370 has not changed…. BJP has time and again reiterated its commitment to abrogate Article 370," Nirmala Sitharaman categorically stated while addressing a press conference at party headquarters here today. Sitharaman said this while referring to BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's remark at party's 'Lalkar rally' in Jammu earlier this month that Article 370 should be debated on the issue of its benefits for the state. "Neither BJP has changed its position on this issue, nor did Modi dilute the party's position and nor is his position different from BJP," Sitharaman asserted. She said BJP has always advocated abrogation of this special provision in the Constitution and by asking for a debate on it, the party wanted the people to themselves realize the disadvantages suffered by them on account of it as it has only harmed the state, created hurdles in the development and state's full integration with the rest of the country adding that BJP would be talking much more on the issue of Article 370. Launching a scathing attack on National Conference led state coalition government for its decision to re-induct Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo into state cabinet, the BJP leader said that it was inappropriate on part of Chief Minister to re-instate Kitchloo as a Minister based on a clean chit given to him by an interim report of the judicial commission probing the Kishtwar violence. "BJP is upset over the manner in which clean chit was given to Kitchloo and reinstating him into the cabinet in a hurry…. BJP objects to the decision of the NC-Congress coalition government…The government should have waited for the final report before re-inducting Kitchloo, if at all it was a necessity," she said. Taking a dig at the Congress led UPA government, the BJP leader said that people of the country are yearning for change at the centre as there is a sense among the people that they are not being governed at all. "There is a clear sign that people have lost faith in Congress… People of the country are unhappy over the governance they are being provided by the Congress for the last ten years…," Sitharaman said. "And the reason of poor governance is twin headed nature of the Congress leadership and the union government… Due to the power sharing arrangement between the Congress leadership and the government, there was no accountability…. On one hand there was UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi holding on to a lot of work sometimes which is not accounted for and on the other hand government headed by Dr Manmohan Singh on many matters preferred to remain silent on several vital issues," she added. |
