JAMMU, Dec 27: Organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Korfball Association, the District Jammu Korfball Championship got underway at Green Field ground, here today. In all, nine teams, representing different clubs, are taking part in this two-day competition being organised on knock-out basis. The championship was declared open by Sports Officer of J&K State Sports Council, Rajan Sharma. Earlier, in the first round of quarterfinals, Jammu Blue emerged winner after they beat Jammu Red 14-10 with half time score being 6-6. Harish and Irfan remained main scorers from Jammu Blue with seven and five baskets respectively. Similarly, Mohit added most of the three baskets while Ashwani and Megha contributed two each from Jammu Red. Meanwhile, in another match of the day, Trikuta Club defeated Diamond Club 11-07. The inaugural function was attended besides others by Association working president, Tarlok Singh, general secretary, Manjeet Singh and treasurer, Ram Kumar Sharma as also organising secretary, Deshbandu and executive member, Kulvinder Singh. |
