Amritsar Club wins inaugural tie of Police Martyrs NZ T20

KATHUA, Dec 27: Amritsar Sports Cricket Club won the opening match of the 4th Police Martyrs Memorial North Zone Twenty20 Cricket Championship, organised by District Kathua Police and Shaheed Welfare Committee Kathua at Sports Stadium, here today.
To make it to the next round, Amritsar Club defeated RCC Udhampur by a huge margin of 82 runs. Earlier, batting first, Amritsar Club set a target of 193 runs, which, in reply, RCC Udhampur could not chase and bowled out for 111 runs. For his superb innings of 37 runs, Avinash Sharma was declared man of the match.
Earlier, Inspector General of Police, Jammu, Rajesh Kumar declared the championship open by releasing pigeons and balloons. Accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Shakeel Ahmed Beig and District Development Commissioner, Jatinder Kumar Singh, the chief guest interacted with the teams playing in the opening game.
Among other distinguished gathering were Brigade Commander 401 ARTY-BDE and Commanding Officer of CRPF, RS Rawat.
The IGP in his address stressed on the need for better Police-Public relations and congratulated the Shaheed Welfare Committee and District Police Kathua for taking such initiatives which served the dual purpose of better relations and honor to martyrs' families.
He also highlighted the role of police in promotion of sports, drug de-addiction through drug deduction centre and anti-drug rallies thus contributed in brining the youth in mainstream of the society.
The DIG, Shakeel Ahmed Beig speaking to the gathering appreciated the support of citizens of Kathua for the success of the civic action programs.
Welcoming the chief guest, organising secretary, SP Kathua, Mohan Lal dwelt at length to explain the objectives of the championship to the gathering. The function started with floral tributes to the martyrs of J&K Police, who sacrificed their lives while performing the professional duties in safeguarding the Motherland.
The families of martyrs also graced the occasion by their presence at the opening Ceremony. Large number of civilians, prominent citizens, industrialists and senior officers of civil and Police were among others present.
