Beirut, Dec 4: Seeking to clear the confusion over the identity of the woman detained by Lebanon, the country's Interior Minister has confirmed that the lady is the ex-wife of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Earlier there were reports refuting that the woman in detention was Baghdadi's wife.
However, speaking to Lebanon's MTV channel, Interior Minister Nouhad Mashnuq said that the detained woman's named was Saja al-Dulaimi adding that she had married Baghdadi six years ago.
In first public comments by any government official, Mashnuq added that Dulami was travelling with a daughter and two sons, out of which the girl was, according to the DNA tests, her and Baghdadi's child.
'DNA tests on her and the daughter showed she was the mother of the girl, and that the girl is his (Baghdadi's) daughter, based on DNA from Baghdadi from Iraq,' the minister said.
Baghdadi's wife for just three months, Dulami is said to have married thrice and that the IS Caliph was her second husband.
'Dulaimi is not Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi's wife currently. She has been married three times: first to a man from the former Iraqi regime, with whom she had two sons,' reports quoted the minister as telling MTV channel.
The minister also added that the woman is currently pregnant with the child of a Palestinian.
Dulami is currently being quizzed by Lebanese officials while her children are reportedly placed in a children care centre.
According to some other reports, Dulami is Baghdadi's first wifeand an Iraqi citizen, who was earlier detained by Syria but freed in prisoner swap with the al Nusra Front.
The latest remarks by the Lebanese minister come a day after a Reuters report quoted Iraqi Interior Ministry as saying that the woman was not the wife of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, but the sister of a man convicted of bombings in southern Iraq.
With its neighbour trapped in the jaws of the barbaric Islamic State extremism, Lebanon has been extremely cautious to keep the ISIS at bay by stepping up the vigilance at border crossings with Syria.
Lebanon has also managed to arrest many IS suspects waiting in the wings to launch attacks across the Syrian border and expanding the Caliphate. Over 20 Lebanese Army soldiers are being held hostage by the ISIS and al-Nusra front and Lebanon may see Baghdadi's detained ex-wife as a tool to get them freed.
