Bijay Charak Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 4: The work on Khellani Trauma Hospital in Doda district has been moving at snail's pace, resulting in problems to locals. This is one of the glaring examples of official apathy. Due to the delay in its construction, trauma patients from Khellani are either referred to district hospital, Doda, or Sub-District hospital, Botate. Many of them die in transit. Reliable sources informed Early Times that the construction of double story Trauma Hospital at Khellani was started in June 2010 at an estimated cost of Rs 3.99 cr. It was to be completed by December 2013 but even after one year of the dead line, the work is still incomplete. "The work is moving at snail's pace and only two floors have been completed so far. The work of CGI sheet roofing and fixing of vetrified tiles on the ground floor and the first floor is in progress", sources said. A medico, having adequate knowledge about handling trauma cases, said the establishment of Khellani trauma centre would be of crucial help to trauma patients of Doda and Kishtwar districts. "This time we see all the patients being referred to district hospital and sub-district hospitals. If we have a level two or level there trauma centre at Khellani, it would minimise the casualities on account of trauma," he added. He, however, said the government must put in place requisite infrastructure and post there trauma specialists only after it comes up. "The trauma centre at Thatri has general staff with minimal trauma infrastructure. You need trauma specialists to handle trauma cases if you really mean business," he said and added that otherwise having such centres won't serve any purpose. Despite repeated calls, JKPCC Deputy General Manager, Doda, Pardeep Sharma didn't respond to the call. |
