Jammu, Dec 4: Twelve candidates with a criminal background and ten crorepatis are among 184 contestants who are in the fray in the fourth phase of the ongoing assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Giving mandate to the candidates having criminal background has put the question mark on the "clean image" of the political parties. Among twelve candidates, eight are facing serious criminal charges including attempt to murder, robbery, forgery and other heinous cases. The data provided to Balvinder Singh of Jammu and Kashmir Election watch by Election Commission of India for phase fourth reveals that out of 12 candidates, 3 are from India National Congress (INC), 4 are from JKPDP, 2 are from BJP and 2 are independent candidates. These contestants in their poll affidavits have declared that criminal cases are pending against them. Tariq Ahmad Ahanger, Constituency: Shopian, Party: IND,booked in 3 cases u/s 148, 149, 188, 336, 332, 327, 447 , 307, 436, 335, 148, 149, 447A, 427 , 148, 149, 436 RPC on the charges of preventing public servant from doing his duty, attempt to murder, rioting, armed with deadly weapon, Act endangering life or personal safety of others and criminal trespass. Khurshid Ahmad Malik, Constituency:Kokernag, Party:BJP, total cases:2, booked u/s 420, 120B , 468, 471 RPC for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, forgery for purpose of cheating, punishment of criminal conspiracy. Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, Constituency: Shangus, Party: JKPDP, total cases:1,booked u/s 167A, 467, 468, 471, 201, 120B RPC for the crime related to forgery of valuable security, will, etc ,forgery for purpose of cheating, charge related to causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender, using as genuine a forged document or electronic record and charge related to Punishment of criminal conspiracy. Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, Constituency: Shopian, Party: JKPDP, booked u/s 120B, 167, 193, 194, 195A , for the charge related to giving or fabricating false evidence with intent to procure conviction of capital offence, threatening any person to give false information and charge related to Public servant farming an incorrect document with intent to cause injury. Asiya Naqash, constituency: Hazratbal, Party: JKPDP booked u/s 353, 427, 506 for assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharging his duty and mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees. Mohammad Yaqub Vakil, constituency:Khanyar, Party: INC, booked u/s 120B, 121A RPC for charge related to conspiracy to commit offences punishable by section 121 and charge related to Punishment of criminal conspiracy. Raman Mattoo, constituency: Habbakadal, Party: INC ,booked u/s 420 RPC for the charge related to cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property. Sanjay Saraf, constituency: Habbakadal, Party:LJP, booked u/s 448, 225, 353 RPC for charge related to house-trespass and assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty. Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, constituency: Amirakadal, Party: JKPDP, Total Cases: 7 Gulzar Ahmad Wani, Constituency: Shangus, Party: INC, booked u/s 353 RPC for assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty. Mohammad Yousuf Haji, constituency: Shopian, Party: IND, booked u/s 323, 342 RPC for charge related to voluntarily causing hurt and charge related to wrongful confinement. Sofi Yousuf, Constituency: Pahalgam, Party: BJP, booked u/s 353, 336, 427 RPC for charge related to Act endangering life or personal safety of others, charge related to mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees. Besides , ten crorepatis, including Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Abid Hussain Ansari, Abdul Qayoom Bhat, Rafi Ahmed Mir, Ajad Hussain, Javed Ahmad Tota, Raman Mattoo, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Motilal Kaul and Dr Bashir Ahmad Shah are in the fray. They have properties ranging from Rs 19 crore to Rs 84 crore.
