Omar 'admits involvement' in Yusuf killing? | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 4: It seems Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah whose party National Conference (NC) always thrived on poll boycott has lost his nerves because of heavy polling in the two phases. He has admitted a fact that has serious legal consequences. Omar Abdullah today admitted that National Conference leader Haji Yusuf died in the custody of the former IGP Crime and now People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Raja Aijaz Ali in September 2011. This is an admission that Yusuf died in his (Omar's) custody. Omar perhaps forgot that he was and happens to be the Home Minister of the state. "After coming to know about the murky deals of Haji Yosuf, I handed over him to then IGP Crime (Raja Aijaz). He died in his custody. The PDP at that time gave statements that Raja Aijaz is a killer and was involved in Haji Yosuf's killing." This is a political statement and only a legal expert can say whether it can be used in a court against Omar or not. But Omar has accepted moral responsibility for the death. Can he forgive himself? Omar said NC suffered because of the mistakes of Congress ministers. However, political experts refuse to buy this. According to them, Omar always had the option to pull out of the coalition. "Today I have to answer for the mistakes committed by the Congress ministers. Due to their mistakes NC also suffered," he added. |
