| BJP disappoints Jammu, Ladakh | | | Masood Malik

JAMMU, Dec 4: Bharatiya Janta Party ignoring the sentiments of the people of Jammu and Ladakh regions has disappointed the denizens of both the regions. They are finding it hard to believe that BJP is the same party which had emerged as the strong alternative for the masses of these two regions.
Yes, there were times when the BJP used to tread a path different from those of the Kashmiri parties. But gone are those days. The BJP of today is completely different from what it used to be. It has become another face of the Congress or the NC or similar other secular parties. In other words, the BJP of today is as secular as the Congress, which was rejected by the Indian electorate in the last Lok Sabha election. It is no different. It is also talking about Kashmir, Kashmiri alienation and Kashmiri wounds. It has no place in its scheme of things for Jammu and Ladakh. For the BJP, Jammu and Ladakh are not part of the solution; they are the obstacles. It has engaged or hired Muslim clerics and they have been charged with the responsibility of working in Kashmir so that the BJP wins a few seats in the Valley. Their number is about 150 and they have spread all across the Kashmir Valley to garner support for the BJP candidates.
These clerics are telling the Kashmiri people that they "are of the belief that Modi is the first Prime Minister of India who has clear intentions to heal the wounds of Kashmiri people". Which wounds they are talking about? Who has wounded the Kashmiri people, who have been ruling the state since 1947 without any break? What about the wounds of the people of Jammu and Ladakh, who have been suffering at the hands of Delhi-supported Kashmiri-dominated governments in the state or who have been living like third grade citizens? The truth is that the BJP is playing with fire and has set-in-motion a process in the state which will cause more harm to the country that what the secular governments in Delhi did during all these years. The criticism of the BJP by the secular parties is misplaced. Actually, they should congratulate the BJP leadership because it is only advocating the Kashmiri cause and ignoring the sentiments of Jammu and Ladakh. There is no doubt that the people of Kashmir are very fortunate and those of Jammu and Ladakh very unfortunate. |
