VC JU calls for generating conducive academic atmosphere

Jammu, Dec 4: Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof RD Sharma today emphasized the role the Principals of the private colleges of Jammu Division, saying they have a crucial responsibility in the overall development of the educational system.
"Realising their pivotal responsibility, the Principals have to strive hard for creating conducive academic atmosphere and become role models for others to emulate", the Vice Chancellor said while inaugurating a day long meet of the Principals of private colleges of the Jammu Division at the campus this afternoon.
The meet was jointly organised by the University Grants Commission, Academic Staff College in Collaboration with the College Development Council, University of Jammu. Prof. Sharma urged the Principals to focus on developing and maintaining effective educational programmes within colleges with special impetus on improving teaching and learning.
"The Principal should strive to create an organization and or climate which fosters student and teachers growth", added Prof. Sharma. The Vice Chancellor said that it is the job of the Principals to ensure that students are provided the quality education by adopting better teaching methods. They should coordinate all activities in time bound manner be in denying the academic curisictane implementation of the, he added.
Prof. Sharma extended good wishes to the organizers and the participating Principals and hoped that the meet will help them share each other's experiences and devise mechanism to further improve the teaching process.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Prof. Rajni Kant, Director, Academic Staff College dwelt upon the objectives of organising the one-day Principals meet. He said that the meet has been designed to narrow down the gap being experienced while performing inter-institutional academic and administrative barriers.
The aim of the work shop-cum-meet is that each college Principal gets an opportunity to get acquainted more about the financial proceedings and quality of administration from the resource persons and from the University administration, said Prof Rajnikant.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Desh Bandhu Gupta, Director CDC thanked the Academic Staff College for taking the initiative of organising this meet. He asked the Principals not to compromise on certain basic principles. He said that Principals being the link between the University and the Colleges should be conversant with the new statutes framed by the University.
