Govt endangers candidates, removes security | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 4: Withdrawal of security of some candidates in Kashmir Valley who contested the first and second phase of polling has exposed them to a grave security risk. According to sources the authorities have withdrawn security form some candidates who contested elections as independents during first and second phase of polling not only to make the election process meaningful in the state but also posed a challenge to the divisive forces and separatists. Instead of protecting those who took on the separatists and Pak agents active in the Valley for three decades now, the Government withdrew their security cover thus exposing them to grave risk. These candidates and their families are scared and ue the day when they decided to contest. Taking serious exception to Government move People Republican Party (PRP) today warned that the Government will be held responsible in case any candidate or his family member was harmed by militants. The PRP spokesperson Mir Ghulam Rasool said even election process is not over as yet and the Government has either removed or decreased the security of many candidates who contested elections during first and second phase. This is a serious issue as the Government has exposed them to a grave risk. Mir said the Government is bound to provide security to these candidates to make the democratic process successful in Valley and deepen its roots. |
