Srinagar, Dec 4 : Alleging that Central and State governments have failed to provide proper compensation to people who lost their houses in September devastating floods, flood victims held demonstrations saying Rs 3,800 relief was inadequate. Flood victims of Budshah Nagar, Natipora, alleged that they were not provided any relief by the government even after three months of the flash floods. Many flood-hit people have refused to take the meager compensation of Rs 3,800. People at Ikhrajpora near Radio Colony blocked the main road and raised slogans against the State and Union governments. "Our houses were damaged due to more than 20 feet of water, but we are being paid just Rs 3,800," the demonstrators said and alleged that in some cases in other areas of the city those who suffered less damage were paid Rs 12000. They said, "Our houses suffered major damages after remaining under water for more than 40 days," they said, adding majority of houses are not safe for using them for residential purpose. Similar complaints were also received from Indira Nagar, Iqbalabad, Jawahar Nagar, Batmaloo, Mehjoor Nagar, Padshahi Bagh and Kursoo. |
