KATHUA, Dec 4: As countdown for five seats of Kathua district has started, Independent candidates are emerging as serious contenders for some of the assembly segments. Main political parties namely BJP, Congress, National Conference, BSP and Panthers Party are working day night to manage victory of their party candidates but Independent candidates posing serious threats to candidates of main stream political parties. In Kathua Independent candidate and sitting MLA Charanjeet Singh is front runner for the seat. In 2002 assembly elections, Babu Singh, who is Congress candidate this time, had won election from Kathua as Independent candidate. In 2008 Babu Singh had contested election as Independent candidate but this time he is a Congress candidate. Similarly at Hiranagar (reserved) assembly former MLA Prem Lal is a strong candidate. Prem Lal is contesting election as Independent candidate from this seat. In 2008, Prem Lal was runner up in the election as Independent candidate. Prem Lal had won 1996 assembly election as BJP candidate and later joined National Conference before 2002 assembly polls. Sitting BJP MLA, Master Lal Chand, who is contesting election as Independent candidate, is giving serious challenge to BJP, Congress and NC candidates. Master Lal Chand is a mass base leader of Bani assembly area and had won 2008 assembly elections as BJP candidate. |
